Transportation from Florence to San Casciano In Val di Pesa?

We will be traveling to Italy in April and are interested in the possibility of staying at an agriturismo location for four nights. Would it be prudent to make the farm our "base" for seeing Florence, Siena/Chianti Region? We will not be renting an auto and need to know what types of affordable transportation, if any, would be available to such locations.... Any thoughts?

Nope! I wouldn't do it without a rental car.

Most (all) agriturismos will not be walking distance to the bus station in San Casciano. A taxi would be necessary each time, and that would not be cheap in the end.

Besides, buses are not very frequent (especially on weekend), except for Florence. Also the bus from San Casciano will take you only to some locations (mostly Florence) and you might need to change buses to reach most destinations. That would be time consuming.

Your option is viable only if you rent a car, in which case it would be a very good way to see Tuscany.

Just be aware that the Monster of Florence Pietro Pacciani, the famous serial killer of the 1970's/1980's (actually they were 3 friends from the same town operating together with him) was from San Casciano, so you also need a car in case you need to escape from the crazy locals. :-)
