Transportation from Florence airport to San Donato, Collina

I am going with a small independent group to Tuscany in Ocotber 2012. getting from Florence Airport to our Villa in San Donato (FattorI would like to know how to get from Forence airport to San Donato). There will be at least two of us needing transportation at the same time into San Donato. Is there a reference for a driver? A van service? Train? Bus? I cannot find any information at all. The villa said they have a private driver with a van, but no one has given us a cost.

Hi Merry Lou, Have you tried Google Map-ing the two locations and then using the "directions" feature to show you how to get from one to the other? You would need to catch the shuttle to SMN. There is a bus near SMN station (#353A) that takes you close to where you need to be and then you can walk the rest of the way. It doesn't look like it's the best way to get there but at least you have a starting point until you hear from your villa. Hope it works out!

Merry Lou... I don't know of bus service there... but I have been there a few times and I always had a car. It is such an obscure little place that I would imagine you need to find a driver or just rent a car. I would try the Villa and see what they recommend. I stayed at Antica Dimora and think it is next door to Fattoria. I don't know anyone else who has stayed there, but I loved it. Tiny hilltop village that overlooks the vineyard, but I would not have wanted to be there without a car. There was a group there having a painting class. Is that what you are doing?

Thank you both for you responses. No painting class, but I have heard oa a painting tour with a lady from Camas, WA and her art studio. The Villa will provide a private driver/van, but I cannot get a quote without knowing how many people we are transporting. I cannot drive manual, so I'd have to rely on my friend. I think the gal putting this together did not consider her guests and how they were going to get around. She has a car, of course. The google maps do not have the exact location as it is obscure, as mentioned. Your advice is very good and I will check into your suggestions!

Merry Lou... if you really want a car you can rent an automatic. As for finding it, I must have gotten some kind of directions from hotel, but it was actually quite easy to find. It is very close to San Gim., Again, it is a great place to stay for peace and quiet... but literally nothing there as far as shopping, restaurants, etc. A few hotels, a winery and I think a church...and the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
