What is the best option to transportation to our Hotel Cellai form the airport? We'll be joining our Rick Steves tour group in April.
There is no best or worst. There are two basic ways and you decide which is best for you depending on your preference.
One way is by taxi. It costs approximately 30€+ for up to 4 people traveling together. It’s a flat fare which varies a little bit depending on whether you travel at night (10p-6a) or on weekdays or on Sundays and holidays, but it is approx 30€-33€ plus supplements of approx. 1€ per bag. The ride is approximately 20-25 min and the taxi drops you off at the hotel.
The other way is by light rail trolley (tramway) T2 from FLR to Piazza San Marco (the other end of the T2 line) , then approx. 5 min walk. The cost is less than 2€ per person. Larger suitcases over 55x40x20cm and over 10kg (22lb) pay fare too (basically carry on size is free, if above that, the bag pays). Tickets can be purchased at the airport stop, or you can also use tap and go with credit card or phone (there must be one credit card per person for tap and go). Time of travel is about 35 min plus the 5 min walk.
I agree with Roberto - as usual - that is a choice depending on how jet-lagged and luggage encumbered you are.
I would personally choose to take the T2 trolley past the train station to either the Fortezza (or Lavagnini Fortezza) stops which are about 500m from your hotel and walk the last 500m or so to your hotel. But if you're afraid you'll be overwhelmed and don't want to deal with it throwing some money at a cab to just get to the hotel is understandable.
Florence is very much a walking town so it seems natural to just walk it, but if you don't know Florence walking out of the train station and figuring which street to take seems way more clear on Google maps than it does in person. But the walk from Fortezza is mostly open and through a huge piazza and should be much easier than the crowded street from the train station.
Enjoy Florence!

The intermediate stops mentioned by Hiredman come before Piazza San Marco, but are slightly farther from the hotel. I think he wants to make you walk 150 meters (500 feet) more, with luggage, just to keep you in shape. LOL.
I should have known not to challenge Roberto on anything Florence related. I didn't realize that the Tram went all the way to PSM now and that Fortezza was pretty close. And it's closer than the train station but obviously PSM is closer.
Enjoy Florence,
