I am to arrive Italy aat 7:10 am but at the Termini train station I heard the first train to Assisi leave at 1:30 and I'd need to transfer. Is there an earlier train or more convenient way to get to Assisi? Thanks,
Mariann (a senior!)
I don't know when you would reach Termini asfer a 7:10 arrival at the airport but if you look at the Bahn you can see a 9:37, 12:13 and a 13:28 departure to Assissi all changing once at Foligno.
Mariann, if you do this journey by train from the airport train station, you will have two train changes. One at Roma-Tiburtina (not Roma-Termini) and one at Foligno. There are frequent trains from the airport train station to both Roma-Tiburtina and Roma-Termini. However, there are fewer trains going to Assisi from Rome. Thus, the train schedule to Assisi looks a bit light. Here is a LINK to a sample morning train schedule. Notice that the first train from Fiumicino goes to Roma-Termini and the other 3 go to Roma-Tiburtina. Both trains originate in the airport train station in front of Terminal #3. You can take either train and make the appropriate transfers. The train to Roma-Tiburtina is less expensive (8Euro vs 14Euro). Note that the Assisi train station is not in Assisi. It's down the hill at Santa Maria degli Angeli. Don't worry, the sign does say Assisi (I have a picture). You will need to take a bus or taxi for the short ride up to your hotel. You can buy bus tickets at the little shop adjacent to the train station. Outside of an expensive private driver, this may be the only way to get to Assisi. I've checked for buses but I don't see one from Rome to Assisi. I thought that the SENA bus made this run but it doesn't show on their schedule.
