Note that on the way to the official line you may be asked "need a taxi?" by fake drivers or solicitors. Ignore them. Follow the signs to the official taxi rank and take an official taxi which is white. We like to write down the hotel name and address on a piece of paper before we leave home. Since you'll have looked up the flat rate ahead of time, confirm with the driver before putting your bags in by handing them the piece of paper : "hotel X, flat rate 55 euro?" As pointed out above verify their credit card machine is working.

Sounds good. I googled the cost of a pre- ordered shuttle service and it is at least 20-25 Euros more.

There are two types of taxis at the official taxi stand.

The taxi with the “Comune di Roma” logo on the door charges a flat rate of €55 to any destination within the Aurelian Walls (which covers most of central Rome).

The taxi with the “Comune di Fiumicino” logo charges a flat rate of €65 for the same destination.

Any difference between the two for service?

Also, do they charge extra for one suitcase?

There are dozens of private transports available, Transfeero is just one example. Yes, you can take a taxi and it is probably a little bit less. But some of us like the added comfort of being personally greeted at the airport, the nicer vehicle, and possibly a more polished driver who speaks English when you book a private transport.

Thanks for the transfer recommendation. A quick search was 103 Euros. I asked my hotel and they quoted me 70 euros (pay the driver).

Hi, Giangilberto here from Milan, 55 Euros is a flat rate decided by the Rome municipality, as Windyram says there are two type of taxis in the official stands, the one with the Comune di Roma logo and the one with Comune di Fiumicino logo, you've got to pick the first one, cause the second one doesn't have the flat rate at all, they run on the meter, a couple of infos more, the flat rate is the same for 4 people and all their luggages, but no one tell you that if you hotel/home is within the Aurelian Walls the flat rate will be applicated, if not and you are staying for example in San Giovanni o Eur area, the taxis will charge you what the taximeter signs, and so my advice is to ask before boarding, "I've got to go to......, the price will be the 55 Euros flat rate?" if not is because you are staying outside that border, Aurelian walls are the old city, you can still see the gates as Porta Pia, Porta Maggiore, if you pass through the gates no more flat rate.

As other people said don't pick people that offer you transportation inside the terminal, go straight to the official stands.
The last two infos, you can pay with debit/credit card, if you tap pay in dollars you will be charge around 5% more, so tap pay in Euros.
Last one, there is also the Leonardo Express train for only 14 Euros, but in my opinion after a long flight the best option is to take a taxi.
