Transportation from CVC to Rome Central by train with luggage

My friend and I will be ending our cruise in Rome and docking at CVC. The train seems to be the cheapest option, but we will have two 26 inch suitcases and have heard that room for luggage is limited. If we go first class, would we be able to board with our luggage?

Joseph - many of the trains from Civitavecchia are Regionale and unfortunately many Regionale trains do not have first class seating. They also do not have assigned seating. If it's crowded, you may have to stand. In addition, there are only 2 - 3 IC trains - which do have first class - traveling to and from Rome each day. So your options to sit in a 1st class assigned seat may be limited. Depending on which station you are headed to, the trip can run 45 minutes to about an hour. The good news is that it only costs between €4.10 to €4.50 on a Regionale train. So if you can handle a crowded situation for an hour, it can certainly save you some money. Conversely, a taxi or shuttle service will cost between €110 - €130 for two folks. I've done the train to Civitavecchia a few times and have had to stand a couple times. Your luggage will probably be setting beside you - as will the lugggage of all cruisers. For some pictures and more info, you might look at Civitavecchia to Rome by train. Good Luck!
