will you be for sure docking in Venice (most cruise ships are now forbidden) or one of the nearby cities like Ravenna, Trieste or Mestre?

If they do offer such a transfer, then take it. It might cost a bit more than you can do on your own, but it will eliminate a lot of headaches.

If it is Ravenna, please note, for plane-catching purposes, that it’s quite far from Venice.

You’ll need to find out the actual name of the dock area you will be landing at, then plan from there.
Even if you have been told “Venice”, it may likely be out of the city due to new rules about some cruises not docking right in Venice anymore.
Examples are Chioggia, Mestre, Fusina and Ravenna.
Find out from your cruise line, then come back here for great help.
