Any advice on how to travel from Catania airport to Ortigia??? We will be picking up a rental car in Siracusa after a few days in Ortigia.

There's a ticket booth and a bus bay right outside the airport...can't miss it. The ticket was something like 8 EUR or so. Very easy. Luggage goes on side of the bus. The ride is around 2 hours from what I remember. Nice, clean modern bus.

Another option, not as direct as Agnes' suggestion, is to take the €4 Alibus into Catania train station. From there you could take a train or a bus. The bus stations in both Catania and Siracusa is across the street from the train station, so your means of transportation depends on schedules. From the bus station in Siracusa, there are taxis to Ortigia; in the morning and afternoon there is a minibus as well.
If you decide to pick up your car in Siracusa, there is a big parking lot on Ortigia, so you could take a daytrip if you like. Traffic in Siracusa is slow but not especially challenging.
