We are traveling from Annecy, France to Venice on July 20. We had intended to drive until we found out about the $500 - $800 drop charge (because of dropping in a different country). As I look at buses, trains and air options I'm not finding good solutions. I'm hoping someone has done this and can shed some light on it. It is for 6 people.
Thanks!
The train is 9 - 10 hrs from Annecy to Venice - there are a couple of routes.
You can fly from Geneva but you would have a 2:20 train ride to the airport in Geneva, plus the 2 hr pre flight airport time, the 1:15 minute flight then getting from the airport to Santa Lucia train station - ugh!
Take the train, pack a picnic, sit back relax and go city center to city center.
I just played around with this itinerary on CaptainTrain.com and you are right: it is not a pretty solution. 5 trains and 9-10 hours. I do not mind long train trips, but 4 changes is hard on a person. Perhaps you could break it up with a night in Torino or Bologna. I like both cities very much, and you can easily while away a pleasant afternoon and evening, then continue on to Venezia the next morning. Usually I do not recommend one night stays, but it might be a good option for you in this case.
