My wife and I are flying into Venice in September. We are staying at the J W Marriott located on Sacca Sessola. We will leave Venice on a Viking cruise. Looking for recommendations for how to get to the hotel and to the cruise terminal. I now recognize the hotels location is a bit farther from Venice proper, but reservations are made. Will also need transportation into and out of Venice.
Since it is a 5 star resort. why not spring for a private water taxi. About 170 EUR.
You don't say what cruise terminal your Viking is leaving from. There are several, depending on what type of ship it is.
hey hey nwgreen2
agree with sam, private water taxi from VCE.

you can reserve ahead of time or book in airport when you land. walk down to dock to get on.
more info about which cruise terminal port you will depart from, not venice proper (chioggia, marghera, ravenna) ask the marriott what they suggest or does viking have transportation offered.
there will be other cruisers wanting the same thing you want, pulling/pushing luggage over bridges/steps/stairs, cobblestones and how far. your decision with less stress involved

I have been told that Viking uses the cruise terminal at Fusina.
Given that the vaporetto dont stop at that island, your most efficient transport from the airport to the resort, and from the resort to the cruise terminal at Fusina will be a water taxi. No need to book in advance for the airport- just walk to the dock. Ask your hotel to book the water taxi to Fusina.
Since you are staying at a high end resort, contact them and see if the have a water taxi that will pick you up at the airport. If they do not, then perhaps they can advise you.
The other option if you don't want to take a water taxi all the way is to take the Alilaguna to San Marco and then take the JW Marriott's shuttle from there.
Thank you for all the responses. I like the idea of taking a water taxi to San Marco and then taking the hotels shuttle. Should I book the taxi before hand? I will have four suite cases, is that an issue with a water taxi or should I consider other transportation methods?
Just take a water taxi all the way
Alilaguna or water taxi to San Marco then transfer to bus is an unnecessary hassle and won’t save much ( water taxi option)
Have your hotel book the water taxi from airport and to cruise port- that’s service you are paying with a 5 star
Your luggage won’t be a problem
If the hotel has a shuttle to Venice proper - use that, probably your only option if no vaporetto service option other than water taxi
hey hey NG
totally agree with ChristineH with water taxi all the way to JWMarriott. you have 4 pieces of luggage, boat drivers put on boat and take off at JWMarriott stop. is it just you and wife pushing/pulling luggage? why stop at san marco to get off and wait for hotel shuttle, how long and is it free? to me not worth it, you'll probably be at hotel before shuttle even leaves.
does viking return back to venice/fusina after cruise and are you flying out same day or staying some where else? be careful on flight departure times, many USA flights are at "ugly early mornings" (6am-8am). ask any other cruisers onboard if they want to share the cost of water taxi going back to airport and reserve online.what's the earliest to get off ship and time it takes to get to VCE. lots to think about. we've done private water taxi 4 or 5 times, reserved, split cost, saved money in my "go go piggy bank" and had rice & beans when we got back home. so so worth it with stressing. good luck enjoy
