transportation from airport to venice

We'll be arriving at the Venice airport (probably "dead" on our feet) in the afternoon. Apparently their are several options to get to Venice, but what is the easiest? Anybody have any idea. We do not want to pay for a water taxi.

Thanks

It depends on where you are staying in Venice. Rule of thumb is bus to Piazzale Roma (plus vaporetto if needed) for places at the railway station end of Venice or the Alilaguna boat for places at the San Marco end of the city.

Hotel websites usually give directions for the most straightforward route(s) for their particular location.

From Venice Marco Polo airport, the cheaper options are by Alilaguna water bus or the land route by bus. There are two types of buses that make the trip from the airport to Piazzale Roma, the final stop for all vehicular traffic to Venice. The blue or green-grey ATVO airport buses has a proper luggage compartment to stow your bags. The ACTV public city bus for regular city commuters, which is a little cheaper but which doesn't have a luggage compartment. From Piazzale Roma, you can take a vaporetto to your final destination in the city. You could check with your hotel about the best or most direct route.
