My wife and I are traveling to Florence in November for a 2 week stay in Lucca and were wondering about the best way to get to Lucca when we get there. Our flight at 8:25 pm on a Thursday night. At this time of night, what are the best options? Appreciate anyone's kind advice...

Catch a bus to Santa Maria Novella train station for about 6 Euros.
Trains over to Lucca go about every 1/2 hour--for about 9 Euros. The train station is a 5 minute walk into the city center.
You can also take a bus from across the street from the train station around the corner from McDonalds.
If you're coming in at night, you could stay in Florence overnight before leaving.

If you'll rent a car for your stay, you'll find some of the airport agencies open until 23:00. The last train departing from the nearby Sesto Fiorentino train station to Lucca departs at 22:22 daily (having started from Firenze SMN at 22:10), per the DB link at How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online.
