Is it possible to travel from Santa Maria Ligure to Carrara and back in one day with a bit of sightseeing at Carrara?

Nancy, it's just under 2hrs each way from Santa Margherita Ligure-Portofino to Carrera-Avenza. Trains depart SML-Portofino as early as 5:30am. Looks like its doable.
