You can take the train.

Circumvesuviana commuter train. You can buy the train tickets at the station the morning you go. The train stop you need is called POMPEI-VILLA DEI MISTERI, approximately half way between Sorrento and Naples (Napoli). From the station to the Pompeii Archeological park entrance is a 5 min walk.

PS: The Circumvesuviana train has a reputation for pickpockets who target tourists. I've never had any problems, and it's used by lots of commuters going to work to Naples every day, but be alert and keep your wallet/purse secure.

Be sure to validate your train tix before boarding
We purchased tix at Sorrento station for our return trip as well
