Is there a ferry or other water transport between the Cinque Terre area and Nice? If so, what's the trip length and cost?

There certainly are no direct connections by water, the closest would be to take the Train South to Livorno, near Pisa. Catch a Ferry to Bastia, Corsica; then a second ferry to Nice from there. Try some things on www.aferry.to From what I can tell the Bastia-Nice Ferry only runs on Saturdays, the Livorno-Bastia Ferry runs several days a week and there are other ports on Corsica that have Ferries to Nice, so there may be other options. From what I can tell, Leaving very early (6:00 AM) from the CT, you would probably get to Nice sometime the next day and I would rough guess the cost at about 200 Euro each, more if you want a cabin.

Why don't you consider taking a train towards Genova and then a ferry to Nice? We stayed in Rapallo last year and I do believe there was a boat to Nice. Look up any of the towns along the coast of the Italian Riviera and see which town has a boat that will take you to Nice. The train from CT to that area I believe was about an hour.
