Transportation and Itinerary Suggestions for Naples to Tuscany region

We will be traveling in October and second part of trip will be from Naples to Siena (Booked two night) we will have 3 more nights in this region before flying back to US.

  1. To get from Naples to Siena and on to Florence - should I rent a car for the convenience ? I was trying to avoid but thinking it may be the easiest. However I am concerned about parking and theft issues etc.

  2. Suggestions for other location to stay or visit? - I was thinking Moltepulciano for one night and then to Florence. for final two nights.

I’ve driven a lot in Italy having made 12 trips there. Whenever possible I now use trains to make travel less stressful and, often, less expensive. Gas, tolls for the trip to Sienna would be about €74 + car rental + parking and takes about 4 1/2 hours. Super saver train fares are as low as €69 for two but can be as high as €95 for a four and quarter hour trip.
