transportation

we are traveling to Italy this October. We are flying into Venice and out of Rome. Our plan is to stay in Venice for 2 days, travel to Florence for an overnight stay, then head to the Cinque Terre for 3 nights. We are planning on then heading to Siena for a night and then to Rome for 4 days. Then home. What would be the best way and affordable way for us to travel to all the places? we will have 14 nights in Italy. Thanks for your help!

The train is the cheapest and fastest way to get from place to place. Use the trenitalia site for schedules and prices. Don't use the reseller sites like raileurope or eurail. They will charge a fee and not show all your train options. On the trenitalia site you'll be able to check October for the faster trains but you'll have to use a date within a week to see the prices of the regional trains which is what you'll have to use in the Cinque Terre. Nicole, As donna mentioned, travel by train is absolutely the quickest and most efficient method. You might find it helpful to have a look at This Excellent Website for information on travel in Italy. If you do a search, you'll find lots of information on travelling by train in Italy. There are a few "caveats" that you'll need to know about, in order to avoid problems (for example, validating tickets before boarding trains to avoid a huge fine, which you'll have to pay on the spot!). Cheers!
