My wife and I are just starting to plan a trip to Italy to find my roots. Our concern is getting around. My father is from the Vento area, The villages of Fitta and Castelcerino Trying to see if these towns are on bus route. Also my mother is from Montecorvino Rovella in the southern part of Italy, I guess we would take the train from Padua or Verona south. Any ideas on getting around and places to stay?
Thanks
Bus service to such small towns is very infrequent. I suggest renting a car in Verona and visiting the area by car. You can complement those towns with drives to Valpolicella wine region, or the Lake Garda, both nearby. Montecorvino is in the Salerno province. Salerno is a long way from Verona. Therefore, if you decide to go I would return the car in Verona, take a fast train to Salerno, then rent another car in Salerno to visit Montecorvino. You can also fly from Verona to Naples with Meridiana, Naples is just north of Salerno. For train schedules look here:
www.trenitalia.com For renting cars in Italy I suggest to go through Autoeurope, rather than Directly with the rental company. www.autoeurope.com
Thank you so very much Roberto, your info is very helpful.Attilio
