Transport using Perugia as base for Umbria

In May we will be in Perugia for six night wanting to visit:
Assisi--understand it is an easy short train ride
Spello and Spoleto- we won't have rental car, is the train our best option?
Gubbio, understand there is a bus and train is no option?
Suggestions for best other choice between Trevi, Todi, Terni or Montefaico.

Assisi: take the bus from the Bus Station on Piazza Partigiani (at the bottom of the escalators coming from the city center on top of the hills). The bus is faster and the Assisi train station is not in Assisi.
Spello: I would take the bus as well, although the train is also an option since the Spello station is not too far from the city center (10 min walk)
Spoleto is probably faster by train.
Gubbio: bus only
Montefalco is probably best by train to Foligno, then bus from Foligno
Todi: by bus from Perugia. No train.
Trevi: Train from Perugia

I had been told that Todi was so very special, but I didn’t find it to be interesting. On top of a hill and scenic views was all.

Thanks for the information. I will study the schedules that I can find on the internet. Also, I have read that there is a great information office if we need assistance.

Geovagriffith,

I’d suggest checking bus schedules to figure out if it’s feasible to go to Montefalco or Trevi for a day trip.
I’ve been to both but stayed a couple of nights due limited bus times.

As Roberto has mentioned, you’ll need to take the train to Foligno, then a bus to Montefalco, or Trevi.

I don’t recommend taking the train to Trevi.
The train station is far from this hill town and you’ll need to wait for a bus or a taxi.

Before my trip to Umbria, I was forewarned not to take the train to Trevi because there are usually no taxis available (to drive you up to the town) and buses don’t travel frequently.

Also keep in mind that some buses don’t run on Sundays.

Wishing you a wonderful trip!

P.S. I forgot to add this.

If you have time, I’d suggest spending at least an overnight in Assisi, a very special place full of tourists in the day and peaceful at night.

Make sure you research Spoleto well before going there. I’d not planned to visit but decided on a whim (as a day trip from Trevi) and didn’t know where the various escalators were located. Spoleto is very hilly!
