Transport to Sorrento from Naples & Pompeii info.

Hi,

We are traveling in September or October. There are 2 of us with 1 large bag & a backpack each. Is the Circumvesuviana train able to accommodate the 2 large bags or is there a boat we can take that might be better? Do you know about how long that would be?

Also, do you think Pompeii is closer to Sorrento or Naples?

Thank you.

OK, let me try to help. The Circumvesuviana is similar to a subway car so, yes, it will handle your luggage. There are also boats that will take you to Sorrento from the port in Naples. That's my preferred way but it is probably out of 'easy' for you to do. The train will take about 1 hour and will let you off in downtown Sorrento. The boat is about 40 minutes but runs infrequently. It also lets you off down at the marina where you can take a cab, bus or walk up to town. Pompeii is closer to Naples. But if you are asking for recommendations on where to stay, I always and only recommend Sorrento. Hope this info gets you started!

Pompeii is roughly midway between Naples and Sorrento, maybe slightly closer to one than the other, but very easy to visit by Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento. The train trip takes about a half hour each way.

Note: OP has posted a very similar question in Rick Steves Tours section.

Actually, the poster has started 3 threads for this question. None has enough info to give a good answer.
