Transport to Pisa from Livorno

We will be in Livorno on a Saturday arriving from a cruise ship and I want to go to Pisa. Should we take a bus or train? Google maps shows two train stations, "Pisa S. Rossore" and "Stazione Pisa Centrale". Which stop will we use from Livorno? Thank you much...Hank

Take the bus from the port to Livorno station then train to Pisa S. Rossore.
The Duomo and Baptisry are a short walk.

The main station in Pisa is Centrale. It is a major hub and all trains stop there; there are urban buses going to the Tower area or you can walk in 30 minutes.

There is a small station at S. Rossore that is quite close to the tower area. The catch is that only trains direction Viareggio/Massa/La Spezia and direction Lucca transit from that station, and only regional (short distance) trains actually stop.

As most trains from Livorno to Pisa call at Centrale and go on direction Florence, in order to get to S. Rossore you have to change trains, usually in a very short time, and then the travel time between the two stations is under five minutes. It is faster than the bus, but you have to be very quick in changing trains.

Hi - we just did this yesterday. Took a regional train to Pisa centrale - bought two city bus tickets for 3euros at the tobacco counter on the left. walked out of the station and a fleet of city busses were there. Hopped on and in 20 minutes was at the stop. We liked this option because we got a quick overview of the city. Then we walked back a ways afterward and hopped on the bus when we felt like it. You pay your driver on the way back. Have fun!
