Transport to <> from Rome Airport CIA

I will be flying into Rome-Ciampino Airport mid-April and was wondering about transportation to and from? I've gain some wonderful insight on places to stay from the blog and I would like to know about the pros and cons of local transport as this will be my first trip to Rome. Thanks in advance!

Sounds as if you haven't bought the RS Rome book yet. He gives the definitive info for Ciampino-Rome connections on p. 374. That book is worth its weight in gold, especially for your first visit to the Eternal City. Happy travels. Rome is amazing (just be prepared for graffiti everywhere).

Check out Romecabs.com- I used them to get back and forth from FCO. The cost back in October was E45. It's so nice to have someone meet you at arrival with your name on a piece of paper and escort you to your hotel after a loong flight. I believe Ciampino is closer to the city so that rate may be cheaper. Good luck!

I suspect that you will be arriving on Ryan Air. If yes, I believe that they have a bus that runs between CIA and Rome. This service should be described on their website.

Don't go to Italy without Ricks' book! We used Rome Cabs from Ciampino last summer and absolutely loved their service. We had a plane to catch at Fiumicino, and they made sure that it happened! That cost us $45EU for a private ride in one of their Mercedes cars.

Another vote for RomeCabs! They're very dependable and highly recommended on this forum & others. The cost is comparable to a regular taxi.

Thank you all for such wonderful information and for responding so promptly. You are right I have not purchased the book as of yet, but I will make sure I have it before I leave and yes I am flying in via RyanAir.

"You are right I have not purchased the book as of yet, but I will make sure I have it before I leave..." Make sure you purchase it and read it BEFORE you make any more plans; that's Rick's strength! He's very good with the basic info on where to go, but he really shines in his 'how-to' expertise - all the options (and prices, locations) for how to get from the airport into the city, when to see a certain attraction (and the price, where and when to purchase the entrance ticket), how to purchase and use a train ticket, how to string together your trip itinerary day-by-day, etc. So, don't do any more planning until you've read AT LEAST his "Rome 2011", and/or "Italy 2011" book/s. You don't want to plan out your trip only to realize that everything you wanted to see and do is closed for that day of the week :-( And although there's some overlap, his "Europe Through the Back Door" is your 'how-to' travel bible. I don't think purchasing it separately is money wasted...$15 and up...and it's yours to consult for many years to come...

I've done it before and I'll do it Tuesday, take the Ryanair Terravision bus, though I do believe it's more than 4 euros one way. It's easy and it takes you to Termini Station, the main train station. You CAN take a bus to the metro stop and then take the metro in, which is cheaper, but I did that once too, and it's a hassle. Make it easy, and cheap, on yourself and take the bus. Why spend gobs of money on the Roma taxi thing when you can spend it on food, gelato and stuff??
