We are looking for recommendations traveling from the airport in Rome to our hotel which is located on the right bank of the River Tiber between Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona and the Vatican City. The Hotel recommends taking the shuttle bus from the airport. In August is that the best idea? Any other economical options?
Also looking for suggestions from our hotel in Venice to the airport. The hotel is very close to Campo SS. Filippo e Giacomo, moments from San Marco Square and in the path to Rialto Bridge.
I had posted the same question as we will be in Rome as well next month. Someone recommended the shuttle service and we booked it. It beats lugging luggage and after a long flight its nice to just have someone waiting with a sign in their hand. I booked online, and a confirmation was sent right away. Here is the link....Happy traveling ! https://www.romashuttle.com/
Since you asked about the best idea, consider a private car service. After a long flight, some jet lag, not being familiar with the area, there is nothing better than having your private driver meet you inside the terminal and whisk you to your hotel. No fending off the "outlaw" cab drivers, waiting in the regular taxi line, or just having a "lost" feeling. It is not the cheapest way, but it is definitely the best. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service (not a cab company) but only cost about 10 Euro more than a regular taxi. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We usually send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. You do have to pay cash (Euros) and the end of the journey but not in advance.
I've heard cabs/taxis in Rome are the way to go. We took the express train from our hotel to aiport and it was 14 Euros each and I've heard taxis are about 30 euros. The express train runs every 30 minutes from airport to train station. It was a convenient spot for us as our hotel in Rome was near train station.
We took the water bus from the Venice airport to our hotel near the Rialto Bridge area. It was a long, hot wait in the sun for water buses. It cost us 15 euros each and it literally took us 3 hours to get to the airport because of the crowds waiting. We didn't fly out of Venice but our friend did and she booked a water taxi so she could be picked up directly and taken to airport but that was around 120-130 euros! I don't think the water buses would take that long from hotel to aiport though. We easily hopped on the water bus from Rialto stop and made it to the train station in 10-12 minutes. It was in the morning.
Let me know if I can be of further help!
There are 3 ways to get to the airport from your hotel. The 1st is a water taxi and it is the most expensive. Probably 125 Euros for the boat. But if you can join up with another couple or two it might be worth the cost. Only you can decide.
The 2nd and next least expensive is the Alilaguna boat. It will cost about 20 Euros per person. It takes longer, you do have to "check" you baggage so you don't have control of it the entire time, and you probably will not be able to get a "non stop" line to the airport.
The 3rd and least expensive is a combination vaporetto (vap.) and bus. It takes a bit longer, but that is what we do because we travel very light with just one carry on apiece. If you decide on option # 3, take the vap. to Piazzale Roma and then the # 5 ACTC (not ATVO) bus from the airport.
The airport taxi in Rome is fixed at 48 euro for up to four people and luggage - not 30 as someone suggested. For the airport you could take the local train (FM1 ?) for 8 euro and get off at St. Peters (stop near the Vatican) and a taxi to your hotel. Not sure what you mean or the hotel means by a shuttle bus. There is a city bus between the airport and Termini but then a taxi across Rome to your hotel. Would not recommend that over the train. There are shared shuttles (large vans) servicing hotels probably in the range of 35 to 40 euro for two people. I would opt for a taxi over a shared shuttle. Taxis are very easy to get at the airport. Go to the front and find the line for the taxi starter. You will get solicited by others offering taxi service but you don't have to fight them, just say NO and move on.
From the Rome airport take a taxi. There are plenty at the taxi stands in front of every terminal and they operate 24/7. Don't bother with the train as your hotel in not near the station and you'd need the taxi from the station. 48€ is the flat fare.
From Venice historical center to the airport there is the water taxi (expensive), the Alilaguna boats, or the vaporetto (water bus) to Piazzale Roma, then a regular bus or taxi to the airport.
