Transport options from Santa Lucia in Venice

Hi

Can anyone please help with the following questions?
1. Can I buy a Hello Venezia card from the Santa Lucia station in Venice? If not, where else in Venice (other than the airport) can I buy this from? I do not wish to buy this online.
2. What is the best transport option from Santa Lucia station to the Venice city Centre (destination address: Via XXIV Maggio, 22)? What is the cost for this?

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Adrita

I think the card is now Venezia Unica. You can check their website for details.

From the station, I suggest taking the vaporetto to the stop closest to your lodging. Ask your hotel or apartment agent for very detailed instructions: what stop, what "street", where to make each turn, etc. Better yet, try to also get a map from them. Street addresses are not of much use in Venice, since buildings are not necessarily numbered sequentially.

A single vaporetto ticket is 7 euro. Via XXIV Maggio is in St Elena, that is probably your closest stop. It is on the exact opposite end of Venice proper from Santa Lucia station. There is a ticket booth at the dock in front of the train station. You can also buy out of the vending machine. Either single trip or day or multiday passes. The 4 or 5 boats are the fastest, but the 1 boat down the Grand Canal has the best views.

You can buy the Unica pass from newsstands inside the station as well, just look for a sign that tells you it's sold there.

Because you are staying in such a remote part of the city it will be especially important to study the hotel's website very carefully for precise directions from the vaporetto stop.

As mentioned above, the street address is of little help. Each sestiere (part of the city) has its own numbering scheme and numbers are not always together. If the number is 22, that is very low. It isn't the number of an apartment is it? You can expect up to 4 figure numbers. Directions are really really important.

Having had a look around, it may be in Mestre.

Adrita, can you help us out here with more specifics please....? Thanks

It must be Viale 24 Maggio in Sant'Elena. Then 22 would be an apartment number---it looks like all apartment blocks on that Calle on google satellite view.

Many thanks to everyone who replied to my initial query! However, I'm now going to look very silly :( - because I've just discovered that I gave you the wrong address! it is actually this:
Castello 4855
Castello
Venice, 30122, Italy

I believe the nearest vaporetto dock is Rialto? can someone please confirm?
many cheers :)

Without a street name that is going to be very difficult. The 4-digit sestriere address go up and down every street and piazza.

Sant'Elena is in Castello so it could be the same place. Can you possibly give us more information? Is this a hotel or an apartment?

Better get precise directions, or if it is a hotel, give us a name. Street addresses in Venice make no sense to outsiders. I seem to have found a site that says it is on Ramo Grimani, just off Ruga Giuffa on the south side of Campo Santa Maria Formosa. At the end of the Ramo is the Palazzo Grimani Art Museum. I seem to recall being there a couple of years ago. Its address is Castello 4858, 30122 Venice.
Campo Santa Maria Formosa is kind of dead center of the island, a long way from any vaporetto dock, but Rialto looks to be as good as any.

Bingo! Found a door with the number 4855 on Ramo Grimani, first door on your left as you turn off of Ruga Giuffa toward the Palazzo Grimani. I don't know if this will show, but here goes.

Brilliant, Sam! Did you do that by "walking" the street with Google Street View?

Actually, I found this website, http://maps.venicexplorer.net/, Click on the "Venice Civic Number" on the left hand menu. Next input on "where" Venice, Castello, then input the number and click submit, comes back with the location on a Venice map. Next I went to google maps and used street view to see if I could find the actual address number on a door, and there it is.

That is a fabulous resource, Sam.

Every once in a while our members unearth a real gem... That's a diamond.

Thanks so much for publishing it.

Too bad it is loaded with all the rubbish ads and opportunities for bloatware but the locator works perfectly.
