Transport options from Palermo to Scopello and back

My wife and I will be traveling to Palermo in early March 2015 to join an RS Best of Sicily off-season tour. This is our fourth visit to Italy, but our first to Sicily.
We plan to arrive about 3 days prior to tour start and hope to visit Scopello during the pre-tour period.

Since we will doubtless arrive in a state of jet-lagged stupefaction, renting a car in Palermo is not an option for us.

I have two questions:

  1. Is it possible/reasonable to hire a driver in Palermo to take us to Scopello and then another driver in Scopello for the return to Palermo?

  2. How much would we be limited by visiting Scopello without a car? We'd particularly like to visit the Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro.

Please feel free to propose any other options we might consider.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Rome2Rio shows taxi fare from Palermo to Scopello at $100, your hotel may be able to arrange a transfer for less.

The park is big, you can drive through part of it. If you need a car, you may as well pick it up at the airport and drive to Scopello. You can turn it in before the tour starts and take the bus to Palermo city, or a taxi.

Some other suggestions for your free time, if not on the tour, are Erice, Segesta. You can get there by public transportation.

Zoe,

Thanks for the advice --and the note about rome2rio; I didn't know about that site.

I think we'll solve the problem by returning to Palermo after the tour and renting a car at that time.

Cheers,

Mike

Probably the best idea, during the tour you will pick up lots of helpful info for your independent touring afterward.

By the way, Rome2Rio also links you to official transportation websites.
