Transport from Venice's Marco Polo airport

What's the most efficient transport for a four person group from Venice's Marco Polo airport to the Rialto Bridge area - morning, in early October? What's the most economical?

The water "bus" will take about an hour and costs €15 a person. Dock is outside the airport and there is a marked sidewalk to the station.
A water taxi is in the neighborhood of €80-€100.

It's going to take you about one hour by bus (2 or 3 euros), a little more by ferry (around €15), or you could try a shared water taxi (around €30). Here's a more detailed answer to your question: http://bit.ly/1O60SKY.

More specifically. . . the land bus mentioned above will only get you to Piazzale Roma; you would need to take a 7€ vaporetto ride from there to San Marco (and I believe the land bus currently costs more than 3€ but I did not check).

As for the "water bus", there are two kinds: the regular vaporetto which serves all docks on the islands but does not go to the airport ( hence the need for a land bus to Piazzale Roma); and the Alilaguna which provides service between the airport and many docks around Venice,,including San Marco. It costs €15 pp if you purchase tickets before boarding, mand takes about an hour.

There is a shared taxi service operated by a consortium of Motoscafi ( taxis) which costs €19 pp and with 4 people I would be tempted to try that.

The water taxis are smaller, stylish boats (think Chris Craft classic wooden runabout) which travel across the lagoon much faster than the Alilaguna and probably are a lot more fun.

Just be aware that at least one person here had a disappointing experience with a different shared taxi service, operated by VeniceLink. It worked fine getting from airport to hotel, but they never showed to pick up his party for the return trip.

susan,
This past spring, four of us, arrived at Marco Polo Airport, picked up bus tickets at a kiosk in the airport, walked outside, waited a few minutes for a bus, took the bus to Piazzale Roma, walked across the street to the vaporetto ticket office, purchased tickets, waited about 10 minutes for our vaporetto, and took the vaporetto to the Mercato Rialto stop ( Rialto is the next stop) and were at our hotel, Pensionne Gueratto in 5 minutes. This entire process took maybe 1 to 1 1/2 hours & was really easy and fairly inexpensive.
Enjoy your vacation.
