Transport from Rome airport to dock in Rome

What is the best, most economical, and reliable transport from the airport to the dock in Rome. Any tips on names of transports that are best for travelers. Our cruise line told us we could book through them but the fee is $750 for 4 people. Can we do better? Any tips. Thank you.

Use the search feature for details or look back a couple of days. This question is asked every day. Leonard Express to Rome -- 11E, train to the port 3-8 Euro, about two hours.

WOW - $750 for 4 people... that's crazy! Frank is correct. The trip from Rome Termini to Civitavecchia is under 5 Euros per person and takes about an hour Frank quoted you the Leonardo Exress price - so you're looking at about $24 per person total - a long way from $750. Trains leave twice an hour from FCO and almost on the hour to head to the port. We've taken the train in and out to Civitavecchia multiple times and it's an easy ride!

There are other, private options you can find to get to Civitavecchia, but certainly the train is the easiest and most economical.

Hi Vicki,

My husband & I are taking a cruise roundtrip out of Civitavecchia in a couple of weeks.

Please be aware that only half the trains run on Sundays.
Also, you need to check if other ships will be in port the same day.

There is much info on the cruise critic forums re: private limo service.

Many people are using Rome Cabs. I think their link is www.romecabs.com

Good Luck.

Hate to disagree with Ron but I think there are two trains an hour on the weekend and three to four trains an hour during the week. The transit time is from 45 mins to an hour fifteen depending on the train. It is basically a commuter run from Rome to Civ. The station is about a mile from the port entrance but a flat walk along the beach. Probably should be prepared to walk it. There is a bus (1 Euro last summer) but the line is always too long. Taxis are available but expensive for the short trip. At the port entrance there will be a shuttle bus to your ship.

If you are arriving in Rome that day, buy all your tickets at the airport ticket office AND buy the return ticket to Rome. I would buy open, 2nd class tickets so that you can get on any of the local trains. Just be sure to validate the ticket at one of the yellow boxes. Buying the return ticket is critical because the line to purchase tickets in Civ will be impossible or more so if more than one ship is docking that day. The number of ships in port will have no impact on the trip to Civ from Rome.

We have made the trip four times so contact me off line if you have more specific questions.

This is an outstanding service. Transport from the airport to downtown Rome was 45 Euro, and although I don't know what it would be to the docks, it certainly won't even come close to 750 - that is robbery! This company is very responsive via email, very reliable and the drivers (ask for Enza) are very friendly. They recently met us with our names on a sign (felt like a celebrity) and were there, on time, for our trip back to the airport. It is wonderful service!

Four people and typical cruise luggage are not going to fit in one cab. The fee I have seen for port to airport is in the range of a 100 E. On reflection, I think you are off on your cruise fee -- that is nearly $200/each. I think our cruise ships have wanted about a $100/each. There is certain convenience to the cruise shuttle -- it is direct and you worry about nothing -- however, for 4 your pay a steep price. The train would be about $80 to $100 for all four.

Frank - you're correct... I should have said within the hour... We often ride into the station at St. Peter's AND not all the way to Termini - a lesser used line. There are more trains per hour leaving for Termini. The other day we returned from Civitavecchia about 1:15 PM and saw four trains within the next hour we could catch into town! Depends on time of day! Thanks,

Ron
