Hi. We’re going to Italy in July, and we’re looking for recommendations for affordable private car transport from FCO to Rome. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Rome Cabs-a limo service not a taxi
Often recommended here

A taxi from FCO to historical center ( actually to anywhere within the Aurelian walls) is fixed rate 55 euros

hey hey Brian
how many is "we" and what does "affordable private car" mean in euros? ChristineH has mentioned the fixed rate, make sure you are in the taxi line and not pulled over by someone outside of line. having a "private" ride would cost more than the fixed rate, where is your hotel in rome within the fixed rate and how many bags.
don't know what time your flight arrives, checking into hotel usually 3-4pm unless early check-in approved. dress appropriately since it will be HOT and crowded everywhere, go with the flow, sit at an outside cafe table with a drink/charcuterie or other snacks and people watch. enjoy and have fun

Thanks! Just two. I’m not looking forward to the heat, but I am looking forward to Italy! 🇮🇹
I looked at the outfit Christine suggested, and I think we will go with them. About €100 for two. If it was just me, I’d probably go the taxi route. The hotel is near the Pantheon.

Brian, reconsider the taxi. So easy to follow signs to official taxi stand, get a taxi, and pay €55. What will you really get for your additional €45 that you are thinking of paying?

Brian
Just to clarify-the 55 euro fixed rate is for up to 4 people with luggage

It’s super easy door to door service
Get in the official line, check with driver that their credit card machine is “working” ( they are all required to take cards) or have 55 euros cash ready.
no tip necessary Please!!!

Hand the driver your hotel address on a slip of paper

Sit back and relax

IIRC Rome Cabs used to be about 20euros more than a taxi
I can maybe see spending that much more but definitely not 45 euros more, and that driver will want a tip

michsride.com is excellent and to my wallet, reasonably priced. Last used them late February 2025 and driver also handled my bag for me. I was his only passenger so that probably had something to do with it, or was it my silver mane? ;-} This company is used by RST and has a standout reputation. Highly recommend.

The hotel is near the Pantheon

Our apartment was near the Pantheon, but the cab couldn't take us to the door due to pedestrian-only streets. So something to verify with your hotel.

hey hey Brian
forgot to mention name of place:
forno ceralli 1920
piazza rondanini 42 rome, near the pantheon
family started this historic operation in frascati, south of rome, in 1920 and still running the tradition. just an idea to check out
don't know how long you'll be in rome, here's some ideas to see & do if interested.
rome.us (click neighborhoods click jewish ghetto and quartiere coppede)
we walked to campo de' fiori (tasted so much lemoncello, never knew what it was years ago, then thru jewish ghetto, went wrong day places closed. i would take a tour if possible, stop and have fried artichokes and other kosher foods. crossed bridge to trastevere to basilica santa cecilia, then to carlo menta restaurant in trastevere outside family style tables, pizza, salad and tartufo (yummy dessert)
quartiere coppede, an off-beat quirky/whimsical area with a fairy tale twist. someplace away from the crowds to enjoy the architecture
guruwalk.com
highlights of jewish ghetto & trastevere free walking tour (click english tip) use for other places
discoverwalks.com (rome)
getyourguide.com (rome)
it's a reseller of tours, a love & hate site hear. i've used them in a few different cities with no issues.
eatingeurope.com
does food tours, see if something interests you.
marketsofrome.com
check out all the different markets, what they are known for
stop in a salami/cheese shop
sit at an outside cafe, have a drink with appetizers, people watch. and of course, gelato everyday. enjoy & have fun

55€ is the taxi rate imposed by the City. However taxi drivers are scoundrels and occasionally try to get some extra euro (like 60 or so) with the excuse of the luggage charge. Actually the 55€ fixed fare is comprehensive of everything, so stand your ground and tell them it’s comprehensive of everything.

About €100 for two.

Brian, there's NO need to pay that much nor use a 'private' service. Really, listen to the posters recommending an official taxi for just 55 € (and no tip!) from FCO to locations within the Aurelian-wall borders. Your hotel near the Pantheon is within the walls. You'll get there just fine, and have more € left to spend on fun!

Editing to add: I see that you received nearly identical advice on the France forum for taxi versus private driver from CDG to central Paris. :O)
