I am trying to work out the best way to get from the Ciampino Airport to near the Trevi fountain. Is there a train/metro option or do I need to take a bus to the Termini, and catch the metro from there?
OR , can I METRO from Fiumincino Leonardo airport to Trevi area? i am trying to avoid the extra step of a bus.

You are talking about 2 different airports?
Taxi from each are fixed rate 55e from FCO, 40e from CIA
There is no metro to/ from either
From FCO you would take the Leonardo Express to Termini (14e)
From there-walk or taxi
Bus to Termini first. No Metro at Ciampino.
If you want a more direct way you can take a taxi. The flat fare from CIA to the city center is 40€
If you are talking about Fiumicino airport (Rome has two airports), you can take a train or a bus to Termini, then a city bus or a metro.
The more direct way would also be a taxi. The taxi from FCO to the city center is 55€
