What is the least inexpensive way to get from the airport to my hotel in Florence? The buses travel on the hour, I was thinking of a taxi.
The express bus from the airport to the train station runs twice hourly and costs 5 euro. I've used it twice and it was easy and convenient. There may also be a local bus, which would even less expensive, but I haven't tried that option yet.
Thanks Frank,
I am trying to avoid a taxi which I heard could be expensive. I will check that out when I get into the airport.
The bus is on the far right as you exit the airport to the outside. It's just a very basic bus stop. It goes to Santa Maria Novella train station in central Florence; and you pay onboard.
From there you can get a cab or walk to your hotel if it's near SMN.
A taxi costs between 20 and 23 Euros (fixed rate to hotels in central Florence), plus one Euro for each piece of luggage. The bus costs 5 Euros per passenger (no charge for luggage), and takes about the same amount of time as the taxi, but takes you to the SMN train station, where you can walk to many hotels nearby.
Just in case you get confused (I did!) the bus is so far on the right side when you exit the terminal you need to go ALL the way to the right, not just at the edge of the terminal. Look for the bus stop.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I'd rather eat or drink my euros, so I am opting for the bus. You all make it sound so easy and thanks to Shirley, I have the bus schedule. Looks like great next week. I am so excited to return to Florence. Thanks again...
