I am wondering if there is an App that people use when travelling in Italy for translation purposes? One that will work without using data or in other words can it be used on Airplane mode? You are not always at a wifi location to hook up to free WiFi when you need to translate. Thank you.
Try Google Translate. You can download the language pack for Italian, then it's usable offline. It also has a nice camera feature, where you can aim your phone at a menu or sign, and it translates it in real time. Not perfect, but it's good.
Thanks Nancy. I will try that one. That's exactly what I was hoping for. To be able to translate without connecting to the internet.
The following translator apps are rated best:
Google Translate
iTranslate
WayGo
I Translate does not have offline capabilities.
Google translate allows you to download individual packages for offline use
WayGo also has offline capabilities.
I have installed Google Translate but haven't had a chance to use yet.
If you have a smart phone consider buying either an international plan with your carrier, or, if your phone is unlocked, a local plan. The local plan is probably cheaper.
