Transit time and best means of transit from Accademia to Uffizi

How much time should we allow to travel from the Accademia to the Uffizi on a Friday (17 April)? Do we walk, or use taxi? We have reservations at the Uffizi for 1 pm. It will be only our 2nd day in Europe, coming from California. Is it crazy to try to see both museums that day? Are we better off trying for the David in the morning before the Uffizi, or in the afternoon after the Uffizi?

The next day, Sat. Apr. 18th, is the first day of a 10 day Florentine week of culture, during which all the museums are free and open to the public,no reservations available. I'm nervous that they'll be jam-packed and we'll spend hours in line if we try to do the museums on that Sat. or Sun., and that's all the time we have in Florence.

Thanks for your help.

Google Maps offers Beta walking directions, and says that the trip from the Accademia to the Uffizi is 15 minutes to cover 1.2 km. If that's cool with you, walking would be a lot cheaper :)

The bus directions that they give have you walking 6 minutes to the first stop and then 2 minutes after you get off the bus, so it sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

I've heard to allot 90-120 min for the Accademia. It looks like the Uffizi closes at 18:50. Maybe someone else can offer whether they think under 4 hours is enough time for it?

The fastest journey between the two will probably be on foot. It's no more than 15 minutes. You could take a taxi but wait until you see the traffic in some of the historic area. Not everywhere but it gets jammed in a few places.

Why do you say you cannot get reservations? I was able to get reservations for both galleries during culture week. The only ticket option was 'European Senior Citizen' and was told to select that as it is culture week and that ticket is free. I did pay 8 Euros each for the reservation. I got them via www.tickitaly.com. We are doing Uffizi at 11:30 and Accedemia at 3:30. Was glad to read your posting about transport options between the two. Thanks

Betsy here's a neat trick. Use your computer's search engine and google maps. Type in google maps and then click on it. Type in Uffizi Gallery Florence Italy and hit enter. On the left side of the screen find Uffizi and click on it. On the ride side of the screen should be a map. Click on the satellite button and you should see a lovely bird's eye view of Florence. Zoom out a little and you'll see that Florence isn't a large, large city. Play with the map. If you know the address of where you are staying type in the address. You'll get to see how close you are to things.

The Accademia is a small museum so I would see David in the morning (he took my breath away) and then stroll over to the large and incredible Uffizi. So yes you CAN see both in a day. just don't expect to be able to take pictures of David or the art in the Uffizi. Enjoy Florence.

It takes maybe 20 minutes to walk from one to the other. It really depends on how quickly you can get through the museums. A quick tour for the Uffizi is 2 hours, then 45 minutes for the Accademia. I don't think a Taxi will be much help to get from one to the other because the most direct route is all pedestrian zone. You could try to do them both in one day. No harm in that.

Definitely walk! It's an interesting walk and you'll get there with less hassle. I'd do David & the Uffizi in 2 different days, you'll appreciate both more, but if I WERE doing both, I'd get to David EARLY in the morning, see the Duomo as time allows, and then walk to Uffizi, finding lunch along the way. You could eat al fresco under the 'other' David right next to the Uffizi!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging advice. And Rosemary, I'm glad to hear that you were able to get reservations. Maybe the web-site's been updated with the info about Culture Week since I made my reservation. That's great.

We did the Uffizi in the morning and then did the Accademia in the afternoon. Walked from one to the other and stopped and had lunch in between. It worked out fine.
