I was wondering what you all would suggest for getting to the airport on the last day of the Italy tour. My departing city is Rome and I'm flying out of Fiumicino. Should I pre-book a way to the airport or should I just worry about it once I get to Rome? If I should pre-book, what do you suggest?
Thanks!
Do yourself a favor and don't accept any flight that's not late morning. FCO's famous for their 6:00 a.m. flights requiring travelers to get up at 3:00 a.m. and take a taxi or car service to the airport. It's bad enough to fly home on the last day--much less getting no good sleep the night before. You'll just end up flying to another European gateway city and sitting around all morning until the flight leaves late morning or early afternoon.
Get a later flight and you can take the Leonardo Express train from Rome Termini out to FCO.
bridget,
A few questions to begin with....
Have you booked your flights yet and if so, what time does your flight depart from FCO? Also, will your flight be direct back to the U.S. or will it stop at another European hub first?
We asked our hotel the day before we left to reserve a taxi for us the next morning. We've always had the early flights out of Rome.
I also ask the hotel to reserve a taxi for me for the morning of departure, unless my flight is at a time that the Leonardo Express is running. If your flight is early, a taxi is an easy option (traffic is generally light in the early early hours).
