I'm taking a cruise from Civitavecchia and would like some advice on the best way to get from Rome to the port. I know there are some trains but I am a senior person with back problems and it doesn't seems that trains will be my best bet... Any other suggestion please ??
If you can not do the train then it is a cab - try Roma cab. Maybe 100 to 125 euro. It is about an hour drive. The train is easy and cheap BUT if cannot handle your luggage the it has to be a private driver.
You can take a train from the San Pietro Train station--1/2 mile or so southwest of the Vatican. It's about 5 euros and takes about 40 minutes.
When you get off the train in Civitavecchia, you'll see a bunch of people towing luggage to the right about 400 yards.
The entrance to the port is across the street, and there you'll catch a free shuttle bus at that takes you out to your ship.
If you don't want to take that hike to the entrance to the port, you may can catch an Argo Bus from the train station for 2 Euros. You could also take a cab the very short distance.
If your back is not up to lugging luggage on and off the train, a shuttle bus from Rome would be an option. See:

If your back problems preclude using the train then try the shuttle service listed above. Not sure if Frank is referring to the same company, but we can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service -- not a cab company. We have not used them to go to the port at Civitivecchia, but have used them from and to the airport in Rome to the city itself many times and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We always send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. You do have to pay cash (Euros) and the end of the journey but not in advance.
