Transfers from airport to hotel in Venice

Transfers from airport to hotel in Venice we were advised by our travel agent in Canada to purchase the transfer I had a time but were shocked to see how much it would cost for transfers for two people from the airport to our hotel . Is it better to just get transfers once we arrive in Venice? We get there mid day so there should be a lot of transfer companies around I believe. Any advice on this topic?

There are basically 3 ways to transfer.
1. Water Taxi: fast and about 120 EUR for the two of you. May be able to take you right to your hotel if it is on a canal, otherwise it will get you as close as he can and you walk the rest of the way. And the boat dock is 1/3 of a mile walk from the airport exit.
2. Alilaguna boat bus: about 15 EUR, can take a while if you are getting off at the end of the line and not all that comfortable. Walk from the designated dock and walk to your hotel. Also leaves from docks 1/3 of a mile from the airport exit.
3. Bus plus vaporetto. The combi ticket is 14 EUR per person. Take the No 5 bus from the airport exit to the end of the line at Piazzale Rome, then transfer onto the correct vaporetto that gets you to a dock closest to your hotel and walk the rest of the way. The bus portion is about 25 minutes, and the vaporetto time can vary quite a bit depending where your hotel is located.

I should add that there are hotels walking distance of Piazzale Roma, so the bus only is 8 EUR.

Just wanted to edit no. 3 of Sam's list above:

Bus or regular taxi cab (on wheels) plus vaporetto.

In the case of taxi (instead of bus), the cost is a bit more, because the taxi alone is 40euro, then the vaporetto is another 7euro for a single ride (although I suggest you buy the vaporetto tourist pass for 1, 2, 3, 7 days depending on the length of your stay). Still cheaper than the water taxi however.

Also to add to Sam's #1, there are shared water taxis that cost around 25 euro each. Kind of like a Super Shuttle here in the States. We were in a small boat with six other people and got a tour of the Grand Canal and several smaller side canals as they dropped everyone off. We were the last ones to get off at San Marco.

I think single ride vaporetto tickets are now 7.50 EUR. On another thread, it was reported that there is now a moving walkway from the airport exit to the water taxi/Alilaguna docks. I was there in January, but walked a similar distance in the opposite direction to the charter bus parking lot. No moving walkway there.
