Transfer Hotel Reservation?

Anyone have experience doing this in Italy?
I have a reservation booked (and erroneously paid in full) on Booking.com
I've made peace with the fact that they won't refund the $$, but could I transfer it to someone? Just call and let them know the reservation name should be changed to ___?

How do you erroneously paid in full? It just depends on the fine print in your agreement with Booking.com. Have no idea if Booking.com permits transfers. The hotel probably doesn't care as long as they get their money but there could be contract restrictions with Booking.com. Second, sounds like you plan to try to sell it somewhere. If I was the buyer I would want absolute assurances that it can be transferred. You might call the hotel and ask them if you can change the name on the reservation or email.

Actually, I'd be willing to give it away. I will look into the Booking.com contractual terms.

Yes, Booking . com. I posted earlier about the error, and explored my options. I honestly thought I was being very conscientious about booking only hotel stays that would be cancelable - because we had not yet established all the details of our itinerary - but I made a mistake.

As far as Booking.com is concerned, their policy is that they are just an intermediary between you and the accommodations provider and the legal binding contract when you reserve and pay is between you and the hotel. Because of this you should call Booking and tell them the information given was incorrect and give them the new info. Follow up with the hotel. In the event that they are hard-nosed about it, cancel with the hotel. Their cancellation policies will apply but depending on how far out you have reserved, you might get by with them refunding everything but a first night charge. Booking.com's rules do not allow you to re-sell.

Terri -

Tried all that, but it was a prepay-in-full deal that I read erroneously as a free-cancellation deal and Booking followed up with the property and they declined to give any refund under any circumstances.

If I don't sell... say I offered it to a family member or close friend, could they simply accept a change of the name on the reservation? Seems like they would accept it.

Frank,
Why don't you read the original post? this post is not about getting a refund. Please peddle your whatever ... elsewhere.

If you made the reservation with the purpose of 'giving it as a surprise gift' to a relative or friend, it seems that the hotel (if you contact them directly and in a very kind manner explain that's why you made the reservation in your name, so you could pay, etc.), then MAYBE that would work. The reservation likely would need to stay in your name, but I could see the hotel 'allowing' someone else to stay under your payment responsibility (maybe).

But, again, as a previous poster mentioned, don't 'resell' the booking.

And, if it is a really small hotel, and you've already told them it was a 'mistake,' then likely they would determine your story has now changed?????

Good luck, and let us all know how it works out.

I made that mistake once as well, clicking the "nonrefundable" instead of the "free cancellation" button. I contacted the hotel and they kept one night's stay but reversed the other two nights' charges. The time between making the mistake and contacting the hotel was less than 48 hours, and it was more than 60 days before the booking, so I guess they figured they would have time to fill that spot.

When the hotel looks at the passports of the people checking in and the name on the reservation doesn't match it, expect those people with an unmatched passport to be given the bum's rush.

The only option I can see is to call the hotel. Have you already canceled the reservation? If not, then maybe they will allow a change to the name on the reservation, since the room is already paid for. Only the hotel can tell you for sure. If you already canceled the reservation, then I think you're out of luck.

There is a huge difference between dealing with a hotel directly and booking through a third party agency. In this case Jt went through a third party.

The third party thing is just for processing the reservation. Once that's done, the guest can deal directly with the hotel - nothing says that the guest can't do that.
