Transfer from downtown Rome to Civitavecchia Cruise Port

As part of our upcoming trip to Rome we would also like to visit the cruise port, but need to figure out how to get there. Does anyone know of a bus and train connection? - Or perhaps connect with other hotel guests and share a taxi? Not sure what options are available.

Yes there is frequent train service from Rome Termini station (as well as other Rome stations on the route) to Civitavecchia.

Most people I know that were on our cruise that stopped in Rome hired a private car for the day... can't remember the names of the companies but there are tons.

I would tell you what we did, but we stayed on the ship as we were visiting Rome after! :)

It is easy and cheap to get between Rome and Civit... either way. It is basically a commuter run with three to four trains an hour taking between 45 mins and an hour fifteen. It is a combination of Intercity and Regionale trains with a price between 8 and 12 euro. The Intercity have reserve seats and the Regionale trains are open seating. The train station about a half mile from the cruise port entrance. An easy walk along the beach. A taxi or hired driver is a min of 100 euro or more.

A word of warning. If some nice young girls offer to help you with your luggage, they are probably helping themselves to your hidden money. Unfortunately, I found that anyone who was 'helpful' wanted money or took your money., especially at the Rome train terminal. This happened to me February 2015 when I was taking a direct train from Rome to the cruise ship (they came on board the train). I was fortunate and figured it out and got my small euros back. TRAVELLERS BEWARE.

Also, you cannot book the train in advance if you do not have an Italy address. (Unless you pay a trave agency to book it). I bought my tickets just a day before at the terminal to avoid the confusion on the day of the travel.

You can purchase tickets in advance without an Italian address. Just use the address of your hotel. The address means nothing since nothing is sent to that address. Just a quirk of their reservation system. Since most of the trains between Rome and Civit.. are Regionale purchasing these ticket in advance on line has no advantage. You should NEVER purchase Regionale ticket in advance on-line. Those tickets come with restrictions. Far better to buy at the station.

Obviously, you should always be cautious of unsolicited assistance. But we have been through Termini a dozen times with no problems. Obviously be aware of your surroundings and don't be burden with too much luggage.
