Tram From Florence Airport to Florence Train Station

Has anyone recently taken the Tram from Florence airport to The Firenze Santa Maria Novella Railway Station? Will it leave you off at the station or will there be walking with luggage through streets of Florence----thanks Greg

The tram goes directly from the airport to the train station.

Well, the tram stops at via Alamanni, in front of the south entrance of the station (some stairs to enter it), but actually the end of line is one stop past the station, at Piazza dell'Unità, in front of hotel Baglioni, and this could save some walking.

I think lachera means that if you have to walk to a hotel closer to the Duomo or somewhere else in the city center, the Piazza dell’Unità stop (the end of the line) might be closer than the Via Alamanni stop.
The Via Alamanni stop is however closer if you need to take a train at SMN, but there are stairs from there up to the train platforms.

If you need to take a taxi, the taxi stand in front of the station is probably equidistant from the two stops, from the Unità stop however sometimes I was able to catch a taxi at the taxi stand on the Piazza dell’Unità, across from the Hotel Baglioni.

This photo shows the tram station and you can see the steps uo to the station entrance in the background.

It's certainly as close as the bus gets you if not closer. The front of the station is around the curve of those tracks to the left. SMN itself is quite small inside compared to the amount of traffic it handles so distance wise all entrances are essentially the same.

Hope that helps,

If stairs are a problem from the Via Alamanni Stop, face the train station and at the bottom of the stairs walk a few steps to the right and you will see the entrance to the underground shopping mall. It has a small ramp down with no stairs. Inside walk about halfway through and you will see an escalator up to the main area of the station.

Well, even easier: if stairs are a problem, get down from the tram (T2 line) at the stop. Do not move and wait there for the next tram, that should be a T1 line car. Board it, and get down at the following stop; the T1 makes a turn around the station and the next stop is at the north entrance, that is at ground level.

I've often wondered why they never thought of installing an escalator and an elevator on the side of the station to make it easier for passengers with mobility challenges coming from the tramway to go up to the train platform level. I think I'll have to write to Dr. Sara Funaro. She should have some sensibility for people with health issues.
