trains -vs- bus

We are flying into Rome (hotel near train station). Then to Assisi, then to Siena, then to Florence, then to Cinque Terre, and then back to Rome (hotel near airport) to fly home. I'm trying to piece each city together for transportation and would like your input. THANK YOU! Judy

Judy, I use the Deutsch Bahn site to figure out the connections, departure/arrival times and which works best for us. I also keep in mind which days sights are closed in which cities. So...I would try Rome to Assisi and compare it to Rome to Siena; or Rome to Florence, to Assisi, to Siena to Monterosso. Personally I would prefer to spend my last night in Rome actually IN Rome rather than an airport hotel even if it means getting up at 3AM!

Without detailed comparision; Rome to Assisi probably best by Train. Assisi to Siena, Bus may very well be the best route, unless you do Train to Florence then Bus to Sienna. Siena to Florence, Bus is definitely best. Florence to the CT, Train is best.

Having done that trip before I agree with Paul 100%. I haven't used the Bahn site for Italian train tickets.

The Bahn site is great for seeing when the trains are. You can not book tickets for Italy on that site.
