How our trains in Sicily to get around on? Would a car be better on this island?
Train routes are limited by topography in Sicily. If you plan to visit more of the island than coastal cities like Palermo, Cefalu, Messina, Taormina and Siracusa, then a car would be better.
Don't forget to consider the buses - often much better connections than trains. Not expensive either.
I would second the buses, they go all over and I would not want to deal with driving in major cities in Sicily, unless you are going to mostly remote parts.
We had a car for our trip to Sicily. It was a must for us to get up to Mt.Etna and around the island in the time we had. It was beautiful by car.We dropped our car off in Palermo and driving there was frigtening. People drive on the wrong side of the street and it was difficult to find street signs.
