There are 3 of us looking to travel Florence to Napoli roundtrip (Wednesday/Friday) in June on a highspeed Italo train. How important is it we have a refundable or changeable ticket? How about Smart/Prima/club exec class? The ticket choices are overwhelming. We would like to travel comfortably but not spend more than necessary. Thanks for any guidance!
If you can commit to the time and date, no need for refundable tickets. It is much like an airline. We like to travel in what equates to first class just to have more room for ourselves and luggage. On Italo, which seems to be the company you are looking at, that is Prima. Exec is sort of a step above. Good explanations here https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-routes/italo.htm#Italos_classes_explained
Thank you! This is very helpful
We always use Italo when possible with our travels in Italy. The Prima is very nice, and the trains are very clean and comfortable.
I second that - Primo in Italo is great, and not much more expensive. I wouldn't worry too much about getting a refundable fare.
Italo offers the ability to change advance sale tickets for several fare types, and even refunds after paying a penalty :
