What are the differences between first and second class seats on trains? Is it worth it to go first class? Rick says yes, but he doesn't say why.
Maya, in 2nd class, you get 4 seats across. In 1st class, you get 3 seats across. A bit more arm and leg room. That's about it. We started out in 1st class for the whole experience of the nice Eurostar trip. Had lunch for two in the dining car for 52Euro. It wasn't worth it. That was it for the experience. For the remainder of our train trips, we went 2nd class and brought on our own food. Much less expensive.
We reserved 2nd class tickets on the Eurostar for all of our legs of the trip...well worth the reservation. Very comfortable! We went from Milan to Venice, Venice to Florence, Florence to Naples, and Naples to Rome.
I've been to quite a few places via train in Italy and have always gone 2nd class. I've been very comfortable and had no issues. Plus with the price of the dollar lately best to save money where you can.
