I'm about to book a train, Florence to Turin, and the quickest way makes two stops in Milan. We could go Florence to Genoa to Turin, but it's longer and requires changing trains. I'd much rather do the Milan route. Are the trains running as normal? For right now, at least?
Take the quicker route. If you can buy a ticket for the train and time you want then the trains are running. If it is canceled Trenitalia will most likely notify you.
There are major delays in the trains running from Bologna to Milan this week. Nothing is normal right now but hopefully soon.
I just did a very quick check (so I could have missed something) but I didn't see the two stops in Milan. It would be odd to have two stops in Milan. So I am not sure what you meant by that. What are the dates? Yes, the trains are running as normal. Are you thinking that the trains could be shut down because of the virus?
My husband took the train from Milano Centrale to SMN in Florence earlier today. Granted, I do not think he paid attention to the actual schedule to know how much longer it took. Because of the uncertainty, he did not pre-purchase a ticket and just took the train from Malpensa to Milano Centrale and bought a ticket to Florence. He said the train did go slower than normal through certain sections, but it did stop in Reggio Emilia and Bologna and a few people got on and off at each stop.
We thought we had read over the weekend that trains were not stopping in Reggio. He has hotel reservations in Reggio on March 9th so maybe he can get there after all.
Anyway, I think the Milan route is fine. Just know it may be slower than normal.
All ground transportation is running normally in Milan. There are many other train stations in Milan besides Centrale, so I assume she stops at either Rogoredo or Garibaldi in addition to Milan Centrale.
Thanks everyone.
What I'm looking at right now, the Italo Treno stops at Rogoredo and Centrale. I had been planning pre-purchasing for the better price, but I think the person who said their husband waited to purchase the ticket has the best idea. I'll do that -wait and then hope it works out I can take that route..
At present a section of the high speed line between Piacenza and Milan is closed due to an accident that happened on Feb. 6th - the zone is the same of the coronavirus but it has nothing to do with it. As trains are forced to the old and slower line (still quite fast) they cannot hold exactly the timetable. The track will be restored on the fast line within a few days.
Well that explains it. I had looked at Trenitalia, the national train site, and didn't see those stops. You might look at Trenitalia since they offer many more trains than does Treno.
I'll check it out. Thanks
What is the problem with two stops in Milan? The second one, in Rogoredo, would be barely a minute.
RFI announced the repair works will be finished by March 2. What's going to happen next depends on the Forensics and the test engineers who, I'm afraid, won't be that happy to work in Codogno right now.
