Trains from Rome to Naples, and back

Hi Guys,

I am planning my Spring Break plans. I have booked a flight from Rome. I booked my hotel for 5 nights. I want to go to Naples via train after my 5 days in Rome.

I recently called TrenItalia to book a train but I guess I was denied due to I do not have an Italian credit card.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me the best way to getting a train ticket from Rome to Naples and Naples to Rome????

Scott, buy your tickets when you are in Rome.

Scott, there are 30+ trains a day going from Rome to Naples. Just get the tickets when you arrive in Rome. Same on the return. If you know your dates and times, you can do the whole round trip transaction at the same time.

That route is operated by the Eurostar Italia high-speed trains and there are a lot of them travelling that route each day. Tickets can easily be purchased just before getting on board and the ticket includes a seat reservation. Do not worry about the trains filling up too much - there should be plenty of seats available and if there are not, then the next train is probably only an hour away.

There are also slower IC (Intercity) and R (regional) trains that do the route, but less frequently and more slowly.

If there are long lineups at the train station ticket windows, look for the Trenitalia automated ticket machines. These machines are easy to use, operate in English, and will accept foreign credit cards.
