Trains from Paris to Barcelona and Venice to Paris

We are taking a cruise Oct 4 that leaves from Barcelona and ends in Venice. We want to purchase roundtrip tickets from LAX to Paris to spend some time there before taking the cruise. What is the best way to get from the above towns back to Paris??

I would suggest that the best way to get to Barcelona from Paris and to Paris from Venice is to fly the inexpensive airlines. Fares can be much less than the train if you book early but you will seriously need to watch the weight of your luggage. These airlines are cheap but they will absolutely nail you on overweight luggage.

For Paris-CDG to Barcelona-BCN, I would suggest www.vueling.com. It's the Southwest airlines of Spain. For Venice-Marco Polo to Paris-CDG, again Vueling or www.easyjet.com.

By train, it's 12.0hrs from Paris to Barcelona although there is a night train. It's 13.0hrs by train to Paris from Venice. Again, there is a night train (No. 220 Stendhal).

As a side note, I believe this cruise may dock in Livorno (near Florence) on a Monday. Most of the great museums are closed on Mondays. I've seen cruisers complain about this before.

This is a Celebrity Cruise and we have an overnight in Rome.

Thanks for the tips on the airlines. I know our luggage will be overweight. Any suggestions? Such as shipping it to our destination airport before we fly home?

If you are on the Celebrity Summit departing Barcelona Oct 4, I'm betting that you will dock in Livorno (I'm looking at the schedule). This stop is also called Pisa or Florence but the dock is in Livorno. However, on this run, it looks like you may dock on Tuesday and not the unpopular Monday. Major museums are open on Tuesday.
