Hi Everyone,
I am a little confused about purchasing a train ticket from Florence to Vernazza.I am looking at a route that says it is an intercity train so I can purchase tickets for that part of the trip. The second half says 2nd class tickets are not bookable. I understand this is a regional train but where do I purchase the tickets and how do I validate them? Thanks for your help. Doreen
Where are you looking?
Hi Doreen.
If you look too far ahead, the schedules are not yet finalised.
Have a look for say, two weeks from now, on the day of the week you plan to travel when on your trip.
Schedules and prices don't change much each time, which I believe is every six months, so you can then come up with a rough idea of times and prices.
Always buy tickets for Italian trains through Trenitalia or Italo.
https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html
https://www.italotreno.it/en/destinations-timetable/trains-schedules
There are English pages on each, and it's really easy to see what's available.
Perhaps have a look at the site called The Man in Seat 61 for lots of wonderful info about how to use trains around the world.
ItaloTreno only runs fast trains oncertain routes so you only need ti look at Trenitalia for your route
You can purchse online, on the app or at the station. Regional tix don't sell out, price never changes. No need to purchase in advance.
The IC train combo takes longer than the Freccia/Regionale combo.
If buying at the station, you can buy from a person at the counter, or at a ticket machine. The machines take cash. For all trains other than the high speed ones, which include a reservation, you need to validate your tickets (time- and date-stamp in the handy validation machines), shortly before boarding.
Thank you for your feedback.
I am rephrasing my question,as I learn more about trains in Italy..
If I buy the intercity train ticket from Florence to Vernazza on the Trenitalia website; will the ticket for the regional train show up on the app,and then I validate it before getting on the regional train?
Thank you, Doreen
