Trains cancelled on April 11 and 12 from Rome to Orvieto. Help please with crafting a new itinerary

I've been watching the train availability on April 11 as there is planned work on the section. We land in Rome around 1 pm and our plan had been to train to Orvieto for 3 nights. It now looks like a train that afternoon will not be possible, per this article, and nothing is showing on Trenitalia now after 1200 that day.

Hoping for some advice. I'm hoping to maybe see some buses added, but also not sure I can handle a really long trek with jet lag. We will not rent a car. Thoughts on other options to get to Orvieto? I have tentatively booked a night in Rome and might just do Orvieto if possible the next day.
Our other option is to skip Orvieto, and to go up the coastal line instead. We planned to be in Lucca next. Any suggestions for a quiet town partway between Rome and Lucca that we could actually get to?

We took DayTrip from Rome to Orvieto, but we did so because we wanted to stop in Sacro Bosco and Civita di Banoregio, so it was worth it to us. I don't imagine you would want to make stops after a long flight, but a private transfer like that might be an option for you, albeit not an inexpensive one.

Here is the site, if you want to look into it: https://daytrip.com/?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=5&gad_campaignid=21020164975&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgZO_sMejkwMVrtbCBB1DYyS9EAAYASAAEgJaNvD_BwE

Thanks BB. I'll take a look at that, even if for a different part of the trip.
Curious if anyone has used the train to get to Tarquinia or another town on that side?

Headed north: it’s tough because in this area, transit is not as simple, but the train does go through Grosseto, which certainly holds enough interest for a day or two.

If that looks promising, I am sure you could figure out a day trip or two to add to your stop. I’ve been to this area twice but always skipped Grosseto (just a time issue, I’d love to see the walls, and I bet the archaeological museum is a good one).

Usually when there are railway disruptions the train company organizes substitute bus lines along the route, so it is possible to reach Orvieto on that day, if you want.
You'll probably need to go to the Rome Tiburtina station (the bus station is next to it), and take a bus from there. I'm sure the train from the airport to Tiburtina will still be operating. Then just buy the bus ticket when you arrive.

Thanks everyone and for the reassurance Robert. I still may change, as our initial idea had been that it would be simple to catch the leonardo express and then a quick train to Orvieto, all steps we are familair with in a jet-lagged haze, but good to know that it is still possible.
