Hello: I messaged this group several weeks ago as I was having issues booking train travel between Assisi and Florence in mid-September. The responses were helpful. There are two of us traveling and I have booked our train travel from Rome to Assisi and Florence to Venice directly on Trenitalia with no problem. However, Trenitalia still does not allow you to purchase tickets from Assisi to Florence for mid-September (the week of Sept 14th). When you put in the information it comes up with a list of train schedules but under the listing for each one it says "temporarily not available for purchase pending timetable updates due to planned line works". It has been like this for weeks now. Additionally, I have tried looking at current schedules for August just to see what they are currently doing and it looks as though to get from Assisi to Florence you have to take a combination of a bus and trains. Most options require at least two changes and are taking 4-5 hours on average with some over six hours.
Does anyone have any insight in what might be happening here? Are there current railway issues between these two cities that will be resolved by then? If not, are the other options bus or private car. I know the latter is very expensive and would prefer to avoid the added cost.

According to the information flag on the Trenitalia website, there is line work until August 28. I doubt they will update until they know for sure the work will be completed on time.
Could you drive? You will need an IDP. Looks like there are Avis and Budget agencies in Assisi. The drive would be around 2 1/2 hours or so. I think there's an afternoon Flixbus, which would be cheaper.

there is work between Terontola and Perugia till Sept 6.
If work is still in progress on the line, the will be buses in front of the station at Terontola which will take you to Perugia station. From there you take another train or bus to Assisi (bus is better as the Assisi station is actually at the nearby town of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Santa Maria de Los Angeles in Spanish), which gave its name to the city of Los Angeles in California.

We were stranded in Assisi yesterday due to the construction on the track from Assisi to Florence. I purchased our first class tickets in May, and we were never notified that the train had been discontinued. We were told the alternative was to take busses to another train station. We opted for a private driver, because I get ill on a bus. It was very inconvenient and quite expensive. Had We known, we would not have gone to Assisi.
