Trains and buses around Italy in winter

Do the trains run everyday from Rome to Spoleto? We would like to take the train from Rome on 28th Dec.2010 and stay one night in Spoleto and then take the train the next day to Assisi. I know timetables are as yet not out for this period, but has anyone taken the train at this time of the year? Do they run everyday on this route? Also do buses run each day from Assisi to Siena? Where can I find answers to my question? Thankyou all in advance for any info. Ing55

You can get an idea of trains schedules by going to www.trenitalia.com and searching for schedules on the weekday you plan to travel. Searching within 60 days will also give you an idea of cost. My experience is that train schedules in Italy don't change much season to season, and that current schedules are a good indicator of future schedules.

You could e-mail the TI office in Assisi and ask about late December bus schedules to Siena. They were very helpful with questions when I stopped there for information during my visit to Assisi last year. TI office e-mail is info@iat.assisi.pg.it. If there are no buses the day you want to travel, train to Florence and then train or bus to Siena would be another option.
