Training it from Rome to Bologna

I am starting to plan a trip for next April / May from Rome to Bologna by public transportation : train, bus, taxi. I have a short list of towns I would like to see on the way from Rome to Florence : Chiusi, Sienna, San Gemignano. Can anyone suggest others? I have already visited Pisa, Lucca, Cinque Terre, so please, not those again.
Likewise .are there any note-worthy or beautiful towns in between Florence and Bologna to add to my itinerary? The key here, however, is "by train." I will have a rolllerboard suitcase and backpack, so I am traveling light. But I am a senior citizen and a more-than-20 min walk from the train station is what I am trying to avoid, especially uphill. But bus/taxi would be okay if it existed.

Both Siena and San Gimignano are easier visited from Florence by bus
They are not on the train line from Rome to Florence

Bus from Florence to Siena is quicker and better than train as it drops you up in town

San Gimignano is reached by train to Poggibonsi then bus to SG
( no train in SG)
